Part 2, Growth, Summer 1993, Chapter 27, Paige Summary

Paige has learned that her mother lives on a rented farm, Fly by Night Farm and teaches riding lessons for a living. Paige wanders into the barn looking for her mother and finds a stable hand alone in the barn. Paige finds examples of her mother's writing on a schedule board in the barn, recalling it from her childhood. Paige does not know what she will do when she is face to face with her mother, but knows that she wants to touch her, to know if she is just like her.

Paige asks the stable hand where May is and is told to look out in the ring. Paige has no idea what the ring might be, but she wanders out of the barn and begins to walk up a path that leads behind the barn. Paige sees...
