Summary

In the introduction to Part 1, narrator and main character Austin Szerba writes that what is to follow in this book is his history.

In the section “Kimber Road” Austin believes the crew that made Kimber Road followed the trail that he and his friend, Robby Brees, made riding bikes through a field they called the Grasshopper Jungle. A mall had been built on the road but about a year ago shops began closing. As a tenth-grader, Austin’s biggest plans were to have sex with his girlfriend, Shann Collins, in the back of Robby’s Ford Explorer.
