Chapter 18 Summary
Tibby is looking out the window of the theater one day and sees Brian coming toward her with Katherine and Nicky. The sight of the helmet always makes Tibby feel uncomfortable and depressed. Brian, however, gives her a look that says he understands and sympathizes with her.
Carmen takes Valia to the hospital and waits for her in a remote place, hoping to be left alone. However, she accidentally finds her mother at a class for expectant parents that David is not able to attend, so Carmen takes his place. Her mother silently cries tears of happiness.
Lena is now ready to draw her sister, Effie. They don't start off particularly well, as Effie is not interested or very cooperative. Lena finally asks Effie outright what is wrong, and Effie admits that she doesn't want Lena to go to art school. When asked why, Effie tells Lena it is because...
