Chapter 17 Summary

Bridget and Eric do well on the first day of the raft trip, but their relationship has become slightly more formal. That night after their camp dinner, it begins to rain, so Bee knows she will have to share the leader's tent with Eric. They had both assumed they would be able to sleep apart outside under the stars. As they both settle into their sleeping bags, Bee asks Eric about Kaya, his girlfriend. He finally changes the subject and asks her about her friends. Bee feels very juvenile in the way she has acted in comparison to Kaya, who has already graduated from Columbia.

Lena has drawn some of her family members for her portfolio, and it is time to draw her grandmother, Valia. She is a little surprised when Valia agrees to pose, and Valia sits somewhat uncomfortably, staring at Lena...
