Chapter 11 Summary

Carmen finds out that she can attend the University of Maryland, which would allow her to stay home rather than going away to college. When she tells her mother this, she is surprised and hurt that her mother is not in favor of the idea. She tells her mother that she believes her place is at home, but her mother says she belongs at Williams College. Her mother says that it doesn't mean that Carmen will not belong at home anymore, but Carmen is scared that it does.

Tibby talks to Lena on the phone and realizes that Lena is sad, so she and Carmen buy Lena some root beer flavored jellybeans. They send Lena a note with the candy telling her that it is unheard of to only like root beer. The brown bag doesn't look too appetizing, but they know it...
