Chapter 2 Summary

Tibby's younger sister wakes her one morning with the news that Brian is downstairs. Tibby goes down in her pajamas to meet him, and he is playing dominos with her brother. When Tibby comes in, Brian asks her to go into the living room with him. There they sit on a couch in a room that is very seldom used except for special occasions, and Tibby knows he has something important to say. He asks Tibby to go to the senior dance with him that evening. She is surprised, but she says she will, partly because she does not want to hurt his feelings. They grew up together and have always been friends, but not "that kind" of friends.
