Daniel “Dan” Anthony Torrance

Daniel “Dan” Anthony Torrance is one of the central characters in this novel. He was a child in the novel The Shining. In this novel, the sequel to The Shining, Dan is an adult. Even though Dan had told himself that he would never drink because of what he had seen it do to his father, Dan has grown up to be an alcoholic with anger issues. He reaches the lowest point in his life on the night that he uses all of his pay to buy cocaine for a woman with whom he has a one-night stand. He steals $70 out of her wallet because he blames her for his decision to spend all of his money.
