Chapters 13 through 16 Summary

In chapter thirteen, the initiates begin training with knives. When Al repeatedly fails to have his knife stick in the target, Eric tells him to go get his knife. Others are throwing and Al would be in danger of being hit by a knife. He refuses and Eric has everyone stop throwing, then makes Al stand in front of the target while Four throws his knife. Beatrice objects, saying Eric is being a bully which is another form of cowardice. Eric challenges Beatrice to take Al's place and she does. Beatrice stands still as Four throws and his final throw nicks her ear, making it bleed. When everyone is gone, Beatrice yells at Four for nicking her ear. He says he's tired of waiting for her to "catch on," but doesn't elaborate.
