Ensei Tankado

Born crippled because of his mother's exposure to radiation during the attacks on Hiroshima, Ensei Tankado spent much of his early life vowing revenge against America. Shortly after his birth, Tankado's mother died of complications related to childbirth and his father abandoned him because of his deformity. At the age of twelve, Tankado discovered he had an innate ability to work with computers and eventually earned a scholarship to Doshisha University where he was known as the "crippled genius."

Tankado studied World War II and his knowledge tempered his feelings for Americans. His hatred faded and he became a Buddhist. At age twenty, he received a visa to work for IBM and three years later, he moved to New York where he wrote his own software. His genius ability to write encryption algorithms attracted the attention of the NSA and Tankado began working in the Cryptography Department...
