Sookie Stackhouse is an attractive twenty-five-year old waitress in Bon Temps, Louisiana. Sookie is different from other people because she is a telepath, able to read the minds of those around her. Because of the concentration it takes to block people's thoughts, many believe Sookie is a little crazy. Sookie is looking for excitement in her life and finds it when a vampire enters Merlotte's, the bar where she works. Sookie is drawn to the man and very attracted to him as well. Events arise that bring the two closer together, and Sookie winds up in a relationship with the vampire, Bill Compton.
