Summary

Prologue

January - A devil meets a businessman and his bodyguard at a crossroads to make a deal. The businessman and the bodyguard think the entire thing is a sham but hard times call for drastic measures so the businessman made the arrangements. The men make a deal with the devil. In return, the businessman will get a chance to reclaim his former success in business and regain his position in New Orleans society. The bodyguard wants only one thing – a dancer named Gypsy Kidd. The bodyguard will not be dissuaded from his choice even though the businessman and the devil think the choice is foolish. The businessman is offered a signing bonus because he brought an extra soul to sell to the devil. The businessman says he wants to think about the bonus.
