Summary

When his father died, twenty-three-year-old Bruce Cable received $300,000. He left college and went to Camino Island with a girl. He spent a month reading and trying to decide what to do with his money. He discovered the bookstore on the island was for sale and talked to the owner about the challenges of owning a bookstore. He learned the man wanted $150,000 for his store. They discussed sharing financial information, but Bruce did not return to the store as he said that he would. Instead, Bruce took a road trip and searched out independent bookstores. He talked to the owners and tried to find out what worked and what did not. Two months later, Bruce returned to Camino Island and offered Tim $125,000 for his store. After a month of remodeling, Bruce opened his store using the name Bay Books — New and Rare.
