Summary

In Chapter 5, Denny and Rooker paid Oscar Stein a visit. Denny had learned from Joel that Oscar had bought the Fitzgerald manuscripts for $500,000. After some threatening and intimidation, Oscar told Denny he had sold the manuscripts to Bruce for one million dollars.

In Chapter 6, Mercer visited Noelle’s store after being instructed by Elaine to pay special attention to a writer’s desk. Noelle praised Mercer’s novel, and Mercer described to Noelle how she fictionalized a real life story she heard. The novel had come quickly, but she continued to struggle with her second. Noelle suggested that Mercer get some pointers from Bruce. As Noelle excused herself to wait on a customer, Mercer struggled with a pain in her gut because she was befriending Noelle with the intent of determining if her husband was a criminal. She felt deceitful and quickly left...
