Chapter 36 Summary

The morning comes for Anne and Jane to check the results of final examinations posted on a bulletin board. Anne finds Gilbert Blythe being hailed as the class Medalist. Feeling a pang of disappointment, Anne is soon cheered as the winner of the Avery scholarship. Anne sets her sights on attending Redmond in the fall just as she learns Gilbert Blythe will accept a position as the new Avonlea teacher. Anne, looking forward to a summer of not being so studious or serious, worries over the tired-looking Marilla and Matthew, who has had some bad spells with his heart.
