Lucifer is going to wait until the next day to move into the Manor. Therefore, the night of the funeral, he is still staying at the Grange. Late that night, long after everyone should be in bed, he is looking out the window and spots Phyllida going into the woods. Concerned, Lucifer follows.
What he finds when he follows is that Phyllida plays a key role in what appears to be a smuggling operation. Lucifer presses Phyllida for answers and finds that Phyllida has masterminded the whole operation. The Colyton Import Business is a legalized smuggling business. Those involved are very careful to keep the operation a secret so that the workers can save face. They don't want others to know that they aren't taking chances like they used to.
