Chapters 22-33 Summary

Una thinks about both Kit and Giles. At this point she prefers Giles, but he is going away to sea. Una invites both men to meet her mother when she arrives on September 11. Una will travel alone and her aunt and uncle feel she is old enough at sixteen.

Una is in New Bedford in chapter twenty-three. She is shown to her room at the Sea Fancy Inn by Rebekkah Swain. Rebekkah, who is from India, tells her story to Una of how she came to New Bedford. When the proprietor leaves, Una waits for her mother and Kit and Giles.
