Part 1, Chapter 5 Summary
Hugh is visiting his family in Folkestone before leaving for America. His mother intervened with Seth to allow Hugh to spend a month in Folkestone. She talks to him about Augusta and her background.
Maisie is at her room in Soho when April tells her of an item in the paper for her to contact a solicitor's office. Maisie thinks that it is Hugh who is looking for her. Maisie is gaining weight and April thinks she is pregnant. They go to the law office and Maisie learns that Hugh has left for America. It is her brother Danny who is there and is looking for her. He is planning on starting his own business in England.
