Objective

Lords & Ladies is the fourteenth book in Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. This lesson introduces the book.

Lesson

1) Class Discussion: What do the students already know about Terry Pratchett? What can the students tell about the book by looking at its cover, reading the title, and front leaf of the book? What do the students expect from the book? Why do they expect these things to happen?

2) Pair Work: In the book's Author Note, the reader is told that the book can stand on its own within the Discworld series. With the students look at the world and background story introduced in the beginning of the book. Divide the students into pairs and ask the students to write down the elements of foreshadowing and flashback, and to write down their possible significance to the rest of the book.
