Joan Anderson's non-fiction book "A Year by the Sea" is a journal of Joan's year at a seaside cottage in Cape Cod. Joan went to Cape Cod to separate from her husband and find herself after many years in a traditional marriage and the traditional female gender roles of being the perfect wife, mother, hostess and nurturer.
