Lesson 1 (from Chapters 1-2)

Objective

In Chapters 1 and 2, all of the main characters are introduced. This introduction is essential to the development of the book. The reader should be able to describe the following characters as they are introduced: Joe Hickey, Huey Cotton, Cheryl Lynn Tilly, Will, Karen and Abby Jennings. The descriptions of these characters should include any physical descriptions as depicted in the book and personality traits as well. The objective of this lesson is to understand character development.

Lesson

1. Class Discussion: Who are all of the characters who are developed in Chapters 1 and 2? These characters should include Joe Hickey, Huey Cotton, Cheryl Lynn Tilly, the Jennings family, and the McDills. What are the possible roles that each character is going to play in the book? Who will be the hero, the villain, the saint? As the reader, how would you identify each?
