Summary

Chapter 12 opens with Jack asking Snoop to set up a meeting with Alia, not as a prostitute but as an informant. After paying her $40, Jack asks about Sergeant Elijah Rios, or Shaba. Alia says that he was the best American to ever come to Iraq, frequently giving out money and aid because he wanted to be one of them. She also says he would have deserted the Americans to live in Iraq if he had not died. After giving her more money, Jack asks about the dead Iraqi civilian at the hands of an American soldier, and Alia responds that she does not remember specifically. Jack and Snoop wonder if she understands English while she continues that Rios wanted to stay in Iraq because of a woman named Rana, and that he died of a gunshot.
