Summary

In 1977, Ben wakes up on a bus which he has been on for what feels like “months, but it couldn’t have been more than a day or two” (226). He is on his way to New York City and admits he did not tell anyone where he is going. He falls asleep and begins to dream about wolves again. Eventually, Ben arrives in New York and notes how filthy the bus terminal is. He follows the flow of people up the stairs and into the city street. In 1927, Rose arrives in New York City by ferry. She walks past a newsstand with a newspaper with headlines about Lillian Mayhew’s stage show as well as some sort of scandal she was embroiled in. Rose hops on a bus and arrives at the theater where Lillian Mayhew’s play will be showing...
