Each stanza takes place predominantly in the natural world, influenced by things like animal fur, the celestial sphere, and the flora of the forest. This emphasises the wildness and otherness of the transformations taking place. The inclusion of a historical animalic serial killer in particular highlights the rupture of the civilised and uncivilised world, as well as the civilised and uncivilised self. In each case, someone is pulled away from the known world and into one of instinct and hunger.
