Chapter 1-5 Summary

Chapter 1, The Dawn of a Gala Day

Molly Gibson, the main character of this novel, is getting ready for the gala. The gala is an annual festival given by the Lord and Lady Cumnor. This year the Lord Cumnor himself has invited Molly to attend the gala. She is to be picked up with the Browning sisters, and taken to the Towers. The Towers is the estate the Lord and Lady live on.

Chapter 2, A Novice among the Great Folk

Molly arrives at the Towers and wonders around looking at the gardens and gets lost. Clare, the ex- governess for the Cumnor famliy, find her. Clare gets her something to eat and takes her back to her room to rest but forgets to wake her up to catch the carriages home. Molly stays for dinner with the family in the Towers...
