Summary

In Chapter 24, Jackie has left. Charlie starts Vacation Bible School. Bertha buys Charlie a decorated lunch box that Charlie refuses to use. Charlie talks about Wishbone, Jackie’s job, and Bertha’s cats when the Vacation Bible School students have to introduce themselves. When it is time for lunch, Charlie plans to talk to Audrey, but Howard sits down next to her. He tells her his brother wrote a letter to Jackie. Charlie watches Audrey and sees that there is a note in her plain lunch box. Charlie tires to read it and finally gets to do so when Audrey accidentally drops it. It is a note from Audrey’s mother saying that she loves her and wishing her a good day. Charlie imagines that she is Audrey, but realizes that she is not.
