Summary

In Chapter 28, Willa floated up to shore and passed out.

In Chapter 29, Willa woke up the next night and was comforted by a baby deer. Blue fireflies appeared and Willa realized that even though her grandmother was dead, the forest was alive. She felt guilty for betraying the padaran, but she also felt certain that he had betrayed the Faeran and their ways.

In Chapter 30, Willa walked to the top of the Great Mountain. She asked the mist to part, and it did. She looked down at her world and saw a machine cutting down trees.

In Chapter 31, Willa ran down the mountain to the place where the trees had been chopped down. She saw Cherokee families carrying their belongings. She wondered if they knew the Cherokee boy she had seen in the cells.
