Chapters 15 and 16 Summary

In Chapter Fifteen, Costi returns the coffers to Jena with enough money in the household expenses to cover their living for the months to come. One night Jena dreams about Tadeusz and his promise that he'd return if Jena merely wished for him. She fears she might have done so. Tati dreams that Sorrow is injured and she becomes weaker as the days pass. At one point, Florica checks Tati's neck, apparently searching for a vampire bite as an explanation for Tati's illness. Jena says she hadn't been able to bring herself to do that.

As Jena is watching Tati in bed following a visit from the doctor, Stela enters the room. Stela asks if Tati is going to die and Jena wants to reassure Stela but fears it might be a lie. She says she hopes Tati will recover but...
