Robin Murphy

Robin Murphy is a freshman in high school. He has reddish hair. Even at 14, he is able to grow a full beard, which he does to resemble the man in a famous painting, so his girlfriend, Sophie, will know what it's like to kiss a man with a beard. Robin talks to Sophie Stein for the first time at the art museum, where they discuss their favorite Renoir painting of two lovers kissing.

Robin Murphy has been made fun of by the kids at school since he moved to the Boston area in fourth grade. The kids made up a saying using Robin's last name, saying "Don't be such a Murphy." They have replaced loser with Robin's name.
