Chapters 36 - 37 Summary

36. India

Chris wakes to a sense of confusion and intense exhaustion. He finds himself in a great hall where others are also lying in beds. The men and women taking care of them wear blue robes and their touch seems to have a sedating effect for those who wake and are agitated. Every time Chris wakes he is instantly soothed back to sleep by touch. After an indefinite period of time, Albert finally appears to reassure Chris that he is back in Summerland and that his sacrifice has spared Ann the bleak and horrible reality of remaining in her afterlife. The good news for Chris is that Ann has been "rebirthed" or reincarnated and is now in India. She has chosen a body that will be afflicted later in life with a disease that will cause sleep deprivation. Naturally, Chris wishes...
