Andy Carter

Andy is the novel's protagonist. This book is Andy’s story, which begins from the moment his wife left him at an Applebee’s. He is attempting to get his life back on track, but in reality, he has run away to New York so he does not have to deal with the pain and rejection. He has become a bartender at a place called the Underground, and his supervisor, Byron, attempts to set him up on a blind date that does not work out because the girl never shows.

Andy heads back home to Omaha for his grandfather’s last moments. There, he is confronted by the past, including his family, former friends, and his ex-wife’s new boyfriend.
