Summary

In Chapter 1, Matthew Norman’s main character Andy tells the story of when his wife Karen left him. They had been eating dinner in Applebee’s. She was staring out the window while he asked her a multitude of questions, such as how the traffic was, if the pollen count was higher than normal, how many people in the restaurant were spies from TGI Fridays. She responded by saying, “Andy, I don’t want this anymore” (3).

At first, Andy believed that she was talking about her meal, so he took the opportunity to do something intimate and loving; he cut off a piece of his chicken for her, telling her she should really try it. She then clarified that she meant she did not want “us” any longer. Andy was unsure how to respond. When the waiter asked if he can help them...
