Summary

Chapter VII titled, “Team Player,” is told from Aiko’s perspective at age 14, from March - September 1943. She starts with saying the day after the shooting everything has been cancelled at the camp. Aiko and her family crouch together in their space, protecting themselves. Aiko thinks about her older brother Tommy and how much expectation is on him from the family that does not apply to her. Her dad grabs her bat (she clarifies it is actually Tommy’s because it was given to him, but he never uses it, so she uses it now). Her dad leaves, while Aiko nervously reads Captain America. Someone knocks at the door and it is Mas, and Aiko thinks he looks and seems like Superman. Mas asks if Tommy wants to help calm the crowd. Aiko offers to help but Mas says she needs...
