The next morning, Lucy rises early to finish her work on the elaborate watchguard that she has been making. She takes the clasp from her own necklace to finish it, and she even decorates the box. M. Paul is the only person in the school who receives the recognition of a fete, like Madame Beck's. While he does not like gifts of value, he gladly receives gifts of sincere feeling.
