Summary

On her way back to the house, Jill encounters G. and R., the former colleagues of Boone who had visited him earlier. They taunt Jill, telling her that her life left no mark on the world. Jill kicks both of them, and they taunt her further, asking how she can be angry with them when their actions are just an inevitable consequence of their circumstances. Jill realizes that the reminiscing she has been doing about her life has lessened her feeling of “elevation” and she is finding it harder to be as forgiving and understanding of others because of it.
