Summary

Interlude 1 consists of the first chapter of So Be It. Verity writes that she intends this memoir to be a fully honest account of herself and her life, and that the reader might be made uncomfortable by the truths that Verity includes. Verity then recounts the night she and Jeremy first met. They arrived separately at a party attended by wealthy people. Neither Verity nor Jeremy had been invited. It becomes evident that Verity had a high libido, and that she was instantly attracted to Jeremy. Jeremy was mutually interested in her. They were both in their late twenties. They left the party together and instantly developed a very intense sexual and emotional connection. The chapter ends on a cliffhanger, stating that Jeremy soon “discovered the one thing that meant more to him than I did” (73).
