Chapters 3-4 Summary

In Chapter 3, Lissa and Rose are sent to their separate classes. The only classes novice guardians like Rose and Moroi like Lissa take together are in the afternoon, and Rose hopes they have at least one class together. Rose is escorted to the gym, where she sees Mason Ashford, a red-headed former friend who is leading the class. Rose's old friends welcome her back, and then the class gets back to their bodyguard exercises. Rose has fallen behind and gets soundly beaten by Mason.

Stan Alto teaches Rose's second period bodyguard theory class. He makes Rose come to the front of the class to "lecture." Really, it is an excuse to berate her for running away. He quizzes her about guardian techniques she's missed. Rose argues that it's safer in the real world than they teach, and that there aren't Strigoi...
