Chapters 1-2 Summary

In the novel Vampire Academy, Lissa and Rose have been best friends since kindergarten. Lissa is a Moire vampire princess, and Rose is her protector, a dhampir half-vampire. For two years, they have been on the run from the people they grew up with, and in the beginning of the novel, they are in Portland, living near the university campus and finishing their last year of high school.

As the novel begins, Lissa has a nightmare, and Rose senses it through their psychic bond and wakes her. Rose comforts Lissa, and their housemate's cat comes in, avoiding Rose, but cuddling with Lissa. Animals love her. Rose notices that Lissa is pale. It's been days since they've done a feeding.
