Summary

Chapter 7

Back in the present, Shay wakes up after a few hours and goes to a Starbucks. She gets in early so she can use the bathroom to try and clean herself up. She’s always been very low maintenance, except for her hair. She's kept her red hair down to her waist just like her mother used to. She ends up falling asleep in the restaurant. A social worker shakes Shay awake and tries to get her to go to a shelter. Shay asks her about Twist. The woman says that she knows Twist, and that he runs a home for children. Apparently, he had been a poor child too, but had come into wealth and now tries to help out the neighborhood.

Shay ends up going to Twist’s. Outside, she sees a police officer bringing in a young man named...
