Tyrell's mother

Tyrell’s mother does not serve as an example for the importance of forgiveness. She has hurt and deceived her children, and Tyrell gives up on understanding of his mother’s circumstances and the difficulties she has faced in her life and family. He resents her lack of growth and willingness to take care of him and his brother, so he refuses to hope for more from her. Tyrell rather forgives himself for the way he feels about his mother and stands firm in his decision to try and make a life for himself and Troy without her involvement.
