Chapter 2 Summary

A newspaper reporter named Ricky Bloodworth is assigned to report on the murder of Sparky Harper. He is trying to make a name for himself and has tried unusual things such as wearing a Panama hat, silk vests, and other outlandish attire, He is actually only known for drinking copious amounts of 7-up and constantly drumming pencils on his desk.

While the two are arguing over the best way to report the story, they find that the story is old as the police think they have already caught the murderer.

Chapter 2 Analysis

The environment of the news room where the story of Sparky Harper's murder is being written is described and Skip Wiley is introduced. He is a difficult person to work with, but one of great talent and experience.
