Lorna Sue

Lorna Sue symbolizes a false idol in religion. She takes part in an imitation crucifix, in which she played Jesus and was nailed in the hand. The toy wooden airplane becomes the cross that they try to nail her to. This leads to Herbie and Thomas developing a devotion to her. They put her on a pedestal and believe her to be greater than humanly possible. She believes she is holy and demands adoration. She tries to reopen her crucifixion wound in order to cope with knowing she can never live up to the expectations of Herbie and Thomas.
