Chapters 7-10 Summary

In chapter 7, Jeeter fails to apologize to Lov as he had intended to do and he does nothing to help Lov's problems with Pearl. Jeeter thinks about Ellie May and Lov's refusal to marry her because of her harelip. Jeeter has always intended to take Ellie May to a doctor in Augusta to have her face repaired, but something else always came up. Now there is no opportunity because Jeeter is no longer making money at farming. The owner of the land on which Jeeter and his family live, Captain John Harmon, no longer feels he can make money at farming, so he moved to Augusta.
