Mia Tang

Mia is the main character and the narrator of this novel. She is 11 years old and in the sixth grade. She has been in America with her parents only a few years, but she embraces most aspects of American culture. Mia is outgoing, outspoken, and kind. She believes it is important to speak up when she sees injustice, and she shares that message with others. She has a strong influence on those around her. Her teacher, Mrs. Welch, is outspoken about her opposition to immigrants during the first of the year, but her interaction with Mia changes her attitude entirely. Mia is extremely loyal.
