Summary

Act Two Scene Three takes begins in the Government Whips’ Office. The blackboard shows the government’s majority as -5. Taylor enters and discovers Harrison listening to opera. Lady Batley enters to say goodbye. She and the Doc are going home now that pairing is back on, having been living in the House of Commons throughout the suspension to pairing. She quietly urges Harrison to arrange a byelection so that the Doc can retire and he promises he will. The MP for Coventry South West (Audrey Wise) enters. Cocks criticizes her for disloyalty and she counters that her loyalty is to her constituents not the party. She says she is popular in her constituency and not worried about losing her seat but Cocks counters that the people vote for the party not for her as an individual...
