Point of View
The Wives is told from the first-person point of view of Thursday. Thursday is the central character in the novel. The first-person point of view is essential in this novel as Thursday transforms from what appears to be a woman in love with her husband to one with serious mental issues. Fisher uses Thursday’s story to portray how a mentally ill person can believe that his idea of reality is correct. In the opening of the novel, Thursday describes how she has prepared for Seth: “Everything is just right, the way he likes it, and thus, the way I like it. It’s not that I don’t have a personality; it’s just that everything I am is reserved for him. As it should be” (12).
