Summary

Chapter 47 is titled “The Final Stand of the Speaking Stones.” One of the Stones carries King Ott who alternates between pleas and demands. Ned is surprised when he speaks with authority and without a stutter. Ned identifies himself as Sister Witch's son and identifies Tam as her dead son. Ned says no one can touch the magic now. Ned predicts that King Ott's soldiers will not even try to save him. Back at the village, King Ott's soldiers continue to arrive. The villagers are relieved when the queen approaches, but they realize she has very few soldiers in comparison to the invaders. Despite that, the villagers refuse to surrender. No one knows what is happening when the ground begins to shake. King Ott's soldiers shake with fear, but the queen's soldiers “steadied their legs and readied their bows” (326).
