Summary

Chapter 10 opens as Toby wakes up the morning after the events of the previous chapter. Over breakfast, Toby tells Hugo about his conversation with his cousins from the previous night and the fact that Melissa left him. Hugo tells Toby not to worry about it and that Hugo will fix the situation. He soon moves on to tell Toby about a breakthrough in his genealogy project. Hugo is both excited about his discovery and nervous about how to break the news to Mrs. Wozniak, while Toby is mostly indifferent. However, Toby appreciates the soothing nature of their peaceful, sunlit breakfast together.

After breakfast, Toby takes a shower, during which time Hugo calls Detectives Rafferty and Kerr over and confesses to the murder of Dominic Ganly. Hugo is arrested and taken to the police station.

That afternoon, Toby is unsure of how to help Hugo...
