Cecelia Bassingthwaite

Cecelia Bassingthwaite is the daughter of Cilla Bassingthwaite and Patrick Morvath, and the granddaughter of Miss Jemima Darlington. She is a junior member of the Wisteria Society, of which her mother was a member as well. Throughout the novel, Cecelia is frustrated with remaining a junior society member. She suspects that the society has kept from promoting her because of her parents. The society mourns the loss of Cilla and fears that Cecelia may develop mad aspirations like her father. She is a proper pirate who has played by the society’s rules. This brings up the contradictory nature of a pirate society, where one must follow rules even though piracy revolves around breaking rules and norms. At the end of the novel, Cecelia is given a choice to go with Ned or accept her promotion in the society. Miss Darlington urges Cecelia to follow her heart...
