Summary

Chapter 9- Cecelia and Ned are driving the carriage through the countryside. Cecelia feels twinges of attraction for Ned, but she attributes those feelings to the cold instead. As the horses walk slowly, Cecelia is angry at the Wisteria Society for holding her back. She begins reading, until their carriage is stopped by a band of highwaymen. Cecelia stuffs pages from her Wordsworth book down their leader’s throat, then they keep going. Ned drives the carriage. The two banter, and Cecelia tries to ignore her budding romantic feelings. Ned insists they stop for the night, and Cecelia argues but ultimately agrees. Ned is driving them towards a place to stay. Cecelia imagines a roadside establishment. Cecelia takes over driving while Ned goes into the carriage proper, and comes back changed into clothes stolen from the carriage’s owners. He takes over...
