Lawns by Mona Simpson Summary

Lawns is the story of a troubled young girl, who works in her college mailroom and steals things from various students' boxes. She is worried about getting in trouble but doesn't stop. She is in the midst of her first serious relationship, with a boy named Glenn. However, halfway through the story, her father comes into town and insists that she stay overnight in his hotel room. Here, the reader learns that her father has been molesting her for most of her life. She chronicles the start of the abuse, when she was very young, which at first was just a power thing. However, over the years, her father has become convinced that he is in love with her. Finally, the narrator decides to tell her family and starts to get help. Glenn breaks up with her...
